Fitting Room Fixtures for Small Boutiques
A boutique without a usable fitting room is a showroom. Specify hooks, a seat, light and a door or curtain that closes — on the fixture list, not as owner supply.
Fitting room fixtures for small boutiques are conversion equipment, not a curtain you remember in week 1. A clothing shop without a usable room is a showroom. Hooks, a seat or ledge, light that does not turn skin green, and a door or curtain that actually closes belong on the same fixture schedule as slatwall and the cash wrap.
Independent shops in Thailand under-specify fitting rooms because they are not in the Pinterest wall. They are in the conversion math. What a 40 sqm boutique needs already treats them as required. This page is the list inside the room.
What the room has to do
The customer must enter, hang the garment, undress, see colour and fit, and leave without the door hitting a rail. Staff must knock, assist, and restock hooks without a queue into the wrap.
Minimum kit:
- Hooks or a short hangrail — more than one. A single hook is how clothes land on the floor.
- Seat, stool, or ledge — bags and shoes have to go somewhere. A folding chair that blocks the door is not a specification.
- Closure — door or curtain that meets. Mirror on the inside if the shop is not a hallway of reflections.
- Light — a specified lamp, not leftover ceiling wash. Colour is the product.
- A place for rejected hangers — otherwise they migrate to the wrap.
Optional: a small shelf for phones, a lock or occupancy cue, a second hook height for longer garments. Not optional: enough floor that the door can open. If the room eats the selling floor, you have too many rooms or the rails are too close — layout.
How many rooms
One good room beats two that cannot close. A 40 sqm boutique often has one, sometimes two if the unit already has the partitions. A third room in a small shop is usually a storage closet you are calling a fitting room.
Mall manuals may dictate size and door swing — mall vs street. Measure before you buy a pretty curtain track that hits the slatwall.
Hardware as line items
Curtain track, hooks, stool, mirror, and the lamp are fixtures. They belong on the quotation with accessories, not as “owner supply.” Finish should not introduce a fourth metal. We do not publish prices. A room that cannot close costs more in lost sales than a specified hook rail.
Common mistakes
- Curtain that does not meet. Customers will not undress.
- Room opening onto a four-way. The door is the fixture conflict.
- Green light. The garment loses.
- No hooks. The floor is the hook.
- Specified last. Six-week checklist — week 3 still has time; week 1 does not.
Put the room on the fixture list
Send shop type, how many rooms the unit allows, and photos of the alcove. We will specify hooks, closure, seat and light on one quotation with the hang — Thai or English — so opening week is not a bedsheet on a tension rod.

- One that works, sometimes two if the unit already has partitions. A third room usually steals selling floor.
- Is a curtain enough, or do I need a door?
- Either, if it actually meets and the customer will undress. A gap is not a fitting room.
- Should fitting-room hardware match slatwall finish?
- It should not introduce a new metal language. Match the hang hardware you already specified.
- Can I add fitting rooms after opening?
- You can, and you will have already lost conversion. Put them on the first schedule.
