Retail Signage and Lightboxes in a Shop Fit-Out
A lightbox is a fixture with an electrical point. Specify it with the walls so it does not fight the slatwall you already paid to finish.
Retail signage and lightboxes belong on the shop fit-out schedule even when a different workshop makes them. Independent retailers in Thailand often quote slatwall and the cash wrap first, then discover the mall-approved lightbox fights the wall they already installed, or the poster frames arrive after opening week with nowhere to sit.
Communication is a fixture family: lightboxes, poster frames, menu boards, shelf-edge tickets, and the fascia on the wrap. It is not decoration you add when the hang looks empty. The six-week checklist puts signage on the same calendar as made-to-order joinery because it has its own drawings and its own electrical points.
What to put on the list
- Shopfront / corridor graphic — mall size and illumination rules, or a street fascia the landlord actually allows — mall vs street.
- One interior communicator — a slim lightbox or a poster frame for sale, category, or lookbook. Not a third brand wall.
- Price tickets and shelf talkers — especially beauty and gift. Unpriced facing is not merchandising.
- Wrap fascia — the last impression. Keep it simple so packing still works — cash wrap.
Do not specify a competing lightbox behind the cashier and another in the window and a third as a slatwall infill. Layout wants one story.
Electrical and the wall
A lightbox is an electrical object. Put the point on the drawing before the slatwall is cut. A cable hanging off a decorative MDF face is a specification failure. Mall fit-out manuals often own this decision; get the manual before you order.
We do not publish lux claims or “LED package” prices. Wattage, size, and whether installation is included belong on the quotation with the fixture list, in Thai or English.
Common mistakes
- Signage as an afterthought. It arrives last and fights the perimeter.
- Mall-rejected size. Measure the corridor rule.
- Too many messages. The wall already holds product.
- Lightbox as the hero instead of the garment. The product should still win.
Put communication on the same quote
Send shop type, mall or street, and any signage rule you have in writing. We will add frames or a slim light as line items on one fixture quotation — even when a sign workshop fabricates them — so week 1 is not a blank wall waiting for a poster.
Common questions
- Can signage be quoted separately from fixtures?
- A different workshop can fabricate it. It should still appear as lines on the same schedule so size, power and install week stay coordinated.
- How many interior lightboxes does a small shop need?
- Often one, or a pair of poster frames. More messages cancel the merchandise.
- Do malls control lightbox size?
- Often yes, especially on the corridor. Get the rule in writing before you order.
- Should the wrap fascia match the lightbox?
- They should speak one graphic language. The wrap still has to pack; do not turn it into a second light wall.
