Hanger Types for Retail Apparel Shops

The rail is only as good as the hanger. Specify one family per wall. A mixed forest reads as leftover stock.

Hanger types for retail apparel shops should match the garment — a mixed forest reads as leftover stock. Independent retailers in Thailand inherit a pile of hotel hangers, plastic clips, and a few velvet leftovers, then hang the opening delivery on all of them. The shops that convert specify one hanger family per wall and keep the rest in receiving.

This is not a fashion-blog ranking. It is a fixture line: the rail is useless if the hanger fights the garment. Hangrail height is millimetres. This page is what sits on the rail. Face-out vs shoulder-out still decides whether the customer sees a print or a shoulder.

What to match

Tops and dresses. A hanger with enough shoulder that the garment does not hook. Velvet or wood is a finish choice, not a quality claim we will publish as a ranking.

Trousers and skirts. Clip or bar. Mixed clips on one rail look like a laundry.

Knit and silk. A hanger that does not stretch the shoulder. We do not invent fabric warranties. Ask the garment, then specify.

Kids. A shorter hanger at a kids’ pitch — kids heights. Adult hangers on a child rail are a specification failure.

Faceouts. The hanger must still hold the garment facing out. A wire leftover will collapse.

Do not mix five hanger families on a 40 sqm perimeter. Slatwall accessories already give you enough visual noise if you overbuy arms.

Rolling racks in back can keep the ugly hangers. The sales floor should not.

When a cheap hanger hurts

It slips. It marks. It makes every size look like overflow. That is merchandising, not snobbery. We do not publish hanger prices. Compare a counted set that matches the rail diameter and the garment — Thai or English — on the quotation.

Materials: plastic vs wood vs metal is a finish and a humidity question, not a slogan. Thai AC and street dust still apply.

Colour: clear vs black vs wood. Match the hook finish on purpose. Mixed metals plus mixed hangers is a storeroom.

Common mistakes

  • Hotel hangers on the sales rail.
  • Clips and shoulders on one story.
  • Kids on adult hangers.
  • Hangers not on the quotation so opening week is a rummage.

What belongs on the quotation

  1. Hanger type per garment family, counted.
  2. Colour / finish to match rails and hooks.
  3. Kids size if you sell kids.
  4. Spare count in back, not on the floor.
  5. Language of the document, Thai or English.

Send shop type and the mix (knit, tailoring, kids). That is enough to specify hangers as fixture lines instead of a leftover pile.

One family per wall, the rest in receiving

If you are fitting an apparel shop in Thailand, put hangers on the same schedule as the rail. Send the shop type, the size, and the opening month through the fixture plan form. We will return one fixture schedule and one written quotation — Thai or English — covering rails, hangers, and the walk.

Common questions

Can I use hotel hangers on the sales floor?
You can, and the shop will read as overflow. Keep them in receiving on a rolling rack.
Should clips and shoulder hangers share a rail?
Not on the same story. Split trousers from tops, or the rail looks like a laundry.
Do kids need different hangers?
Yes — shorter, at a kids’ hangrail height. Adult hangers on a child rail are a specification failure.
Are hangers a fixture line?
Yes. Count them. Opening week without a specified set is a rummage.
