Humidity and Fixture Finishes in Thai Shops

Published 30 August 2026 · 4 min read

Ask what the sheet is and how the edge is sealed. A European oak photo is not a specification for a Thai shutter wall.

Humidity and fixture finishes in Thai shops are a specification question, not a slogan. Independent retailers copy a European oak photo and discover swollen MDF, rusting wire, or a wrap edge that will not wipe. The shops that convert ask what the sheet is, how the edge is sealed, and whether the finish is for AC indoor air or a street shutter that opens to rain.

Materials is the family. PVC vs MDF slatwall is the wall sheet. Slatwall finish is colour. This page is climate.

What humidity does to fixtures

Open edges drink. Wire rusts if the finish is a hope. Melamine can still fail at a cut. Acrylic can haze. We do not publish lab tests or warranties. Ask edge banding, powder coat vs chrome, and whether the sample you held is the production face.

Street shops take dust and wet air at the shutter — mall vs street. Mall shops take AC and still take humidity when the unit is dark overnight. Beauty splash zones need wipe-down, not open wood — tester.

Grid and cheap peg sheet are Thai-specific risks — pegboard. Black vs chrome hooks is contrast, not rust-proofing we will claim.

Do not invent a “tropical grade.” Put the environment in the brief: street or mall, wet bay or not, AC or shutter.

Lighting near heat is a sibling. We do not publish fire ratings. Landlord rules still win — landlord.

Common mistakes

  • Lookbook wood in a wet wall.
  • No edge spec.
  • Chrome as a rust promise.
  • One finish for wrap, wall, and wet bay.

What belongs on the quotation

  1. Sheet / metal / laminate, named.
  2. Edge treatment.
  3. Indoor AC vs street shutter, stated.
  4. Sample vs production face.
  5. Language of the document, Thai or English.

Send shop type and whether the shutter opens to weather. That is enough to specify a finish that can survive the room.

Specify the room, then the face

If you are fitting a shop in Thailand, put climate in the fixture brief. Send the shop type, the size, and the opening month through the fixture plan form. We will return one fixture schedule and one written quotation — Thai or English — covering sheets, edges, and hooks that seat — without invented warranties.

Common questions

Is chrome rust-proof in Thailand?
We will not claim that. Ask the finish system on the quotation. Colour contrast is a different decision.
Can I use MDF slatwall on a street shop?
Ask edge sealing and the shutter condition. Open edges on a wet wall are a specification risk.
Will you warranty against humidity?
No invented warranties on this blog. The quotation can name the material and the edge. It will not invent a climate promise.
One finish for the whole shop?
The wrap, the wall, and a wet tester bay are different jobs. Name each on the schedule.
