Outriggers vs Slatwall Hangrail

Published 30 August 2026 · 4 min read

Hangrail keeps the size run on the wall. An outrigger eats walk. Use one short bay as a story, not a shop of projecting arms.

Outriggers vs slatwall hangrail is a projecting rail versus grooves on the wall. An outrigger (a floor-to-wall or wall-projecting arm system) puts hanging out into the room. Slatwall hangrail keeps the size run on the perimeter. Independent retailers in Thailand order outriggers because they look “boutique industrial” and then discover the walk is gone.

Clothing racks vs slatwall is the merchandising split. Wall-mounted vs freestanding racks is the fixing split. This page is whether the hang should project.

What each system is for

Slatwall hangrail is the default size run: shoulder-out, replenishable, mixed with shelves and hooks on the same face — accessories, face-out vs shoulder-out.

Outriggers are a projecting hang: garments come off the wall into the aisle. Strong as a short feature bay. Weak as the whole shop. They need a fixing the landlord actually allows — landlord restrictions.

A floor rack is not an outrigger. A four-way is a floor story. An outrigger is still a wall system with extra depth.

Hangrail height still must be written. Projection depth belongs on the quotation in millimetres. Layout: two people must pass. An outrigger in the first two metres is a four-way by another name.

Panel layout if the rest of the wall is grooved. Do not mix insert families without saying so.

Common mistakes

  • Outriggers on every wall.
  • Projection copied from a warehouse photo.
  • Ignoring mall sightlines.
  • Outrigger plus four-way plus table.

What belongs on the quotation

  1. Hangrail vs outrigger per wall, named.
  2. Projection depth and height.
  3. Fixing method and landlord rule.
  4. Remaining walk width.
  5. Language of the document, Thai or English.

Send shop type, wall photos, and whether you may drill. That is enough to specify a perimeter hang instead of a forest of arms.

Hang on the wall, project only as a story

If you are fitting an apparel shop in Thailand, default to hangrail and add one outrigger bay only if the walk survives. Send the shop type, the size, and the opening month through the fixture plan form. We will return one fixture schedule and one written quotation — Thai or English — covering rails, projection, and the walk.

Common questions

Can outriggers replace slatwall hangrail?
In 40 sqm, no. They are a feature depth. The size run belongs on hangrail.
Do malls allow outriggers?
Sometimes they cap projection and sightlines. Get the rule in writing before you order.
Is an outrigger the same as a four-way?
No. A four-way is a floor fixture. An outrigger is still fixed to the wall and spends aisle.
How deep may an outrigger project?
Deep enough for the garment, shallow enough that two people pass. Put millimetres on the quotation — not a warehouse photo.
