Corner and Column Fixture Planning
Tape the columns first. A leftover slatwall strip at eye line is an unfinished quotation, not a clever fill.
Corner and column fixture planning is how you stop leftover strips at eye line. Independent retailers in Thailand order a run of slatwall and discover a column eats a bay, a corner is a raw edge, or an AC unit sits where the hangrail should land.
Panel layout is the grid. How to measure is the tape. This page is interruptions. Landlord restrictions if the column is a fire service you may not box in.
What to do with a column
Stop the bay. Trim the edge. Return the system. Or leave the column as architecture and merchandising-around it — a form, a small table, air. Do not wrap it in leftover slatwall strips that cannot take a hangrail.
A mirrored column facing the door is a disco — mirrors. Peg on a column can work for a labelled niche if hook length is specified — pegboard.
What to do with a corner
Inside corners need a decision: two bays that meet with trims, or a gap you accept. Outside corners need an end panel, not a raw sheet from the door — endcaps if that return is a story.
Hangrail height must still land on a groove after the corner. Outriggers in a corner eat two walks. Usually skip.
AC, electrical, fire
Measure them. Put them on the drawing before sheets are cut. A cable on the face is a failure — lighting. Do not invent a bulkhead the mall will reject.
Layout: the first two metres may already be a column and a door. That is decompression, not a four-way.
Common mistakes
- Ignoring the column until install.
- Leftover strips at eye line.
- Boxing a fire column.
- Hangrail that dies in the corner.
What belongs on the quotation
- Each interruption, measured.
- Trim / return / stop decisions, named.
- What sits on the column if anything.
- Electrical points vs the run.
- Language of the document, Thai or English.
Send photos of every column and corner. That is enough to specify a wall that meets the building.
Draw the interruptions, then the bays
If you are fitting slatwall in Thailand, tape the columns first. Send the shop type, the size, and the opening month through the fixture plan form. We will return one fixture schedule and one written quotation — Thai or English — covering bays, trims, and the walk around the building.
Common questions
- Can I wrap a column in slatwall?
- Only if the strips can take a real accessory and the landlord allows boxing. A leftover strip that cannot hang is worse than leaving the column.
- What if a column is a fire service?
- Do not box it unless the manual allows. Merchandise around it. Get the rule in writing.
- How do two slatwall walls meet in a corner?
- With trims, a return, or an accepted gap. Raw edges from the door are unfinished spec.
- Should hangrail continue through a corner?
- Only if the groove still lands at the specified height. Otherwise stop the bay and start a new one.
